Help when it’s most needed!

Our management provided an immediate donation of HUFmillion to support the work of the Ecumenical Aid Organization (Ökumenikus Segélyszervezet) and the Hungarian Maltese Charity Service (Máltai Szeretetszolgálat). However, we experienced an unexpected level of enthusiasm from our volunteers. More than one hundred colleagues volunteered by signing up for all the opportunities within minutes, in order to provide assistance weekdays and weekends. These are the areas where their efforts make the most impact:

Fundraising
We organized a fundraising event at each site, where we welcome donations of non-perishable food and hygiene items. The donations we receive are distributed to people in need through aid organizations.

Renovation of Mátészalka volunteer accommodation
Magyar Telekom has donated a vacant building in Mátészalka to help accommodate volunteers working at the border. Nearly twenty of our colleagues worked weekdays and weekends to ensure that volunteers were able to take over the building with 900 square meters of floorspace without delay. They started by cleaning the building and moved on to assembling furniture after carrying out painting and minor repairs.

Translation work – Ukrainian language
Our Ukrainian-speaking colleagues are always available to help aid organizations with their language skills.

Volunteering at the office of the Ecumenical Aid Organization in Budapest
Over recent weeks, several metric tons of donations were sent to aid organizations, after sorting with the help of our colleagues. Their daily task is to sort, pack and prepare the donations for delivery. The work of nearly a dozen colleagues is essential to enable the Ecumenical Aid Organization to receive the new donations.

Volunteering at the airport
Due to the current war situation in Ukraine, many families are having to wait at Liszt Ferenc Airport in order to travel to relatives and friends, but in many cases they have to spend hours waiting for their flight to depart. The Ecumenical Aid Organization has therefore created a “child-friendly space” or play corner. Our colleagues help to run this play corner in three shifts every day.

Volunteering at the border
Our colleagues traveled to the center of the Ecumenical Aid Organization in Barabás and stayed for three days to help prepare to receive refugees, carry out food distribution and help with logistics. Five colleagues traveled to the border in two shifts to relieve the burden on volunteers.
