The main focus for our datacenters in 2022 was the ongoing decrease in energy consumption. In some areas, we consumed 18 percent more energy in comparison to 2021, owing to new – high-consuming – customers over the course of 2021. In 2022, we reduced energy consumption by 7 percent overall. Without these new customers, there would have been a decline of around 17 percent. So we have still built on our achievements of previous years:
2021→2022: 7 percent decrease
2020→2021: 6 percent increase
2019→2020: 6 percent decrease
2018→2019: 22 percent decrease
2017→2018: 21 percent decrease
2016→2017: 28 percent decrease and
2015→2016: 13 percent decrease.
The reduction was achieved through asset refresh (lifecycle management), decommissioning, and datacenter consolidation.
